FROM “SEVEN WORDS” BY SOFIA GUBAIDULINA (Artist book, mixed techniques on paper, 1998)

I already knew this work by Sofia Gubaidulina, a composer from the Russian republic of Tatarstan. I had often listened to her music, always with great emotion. But the live performance I listened to in the big nave at San Nicolò’s church in Treviso, the almost painful dialogue between the cello and the bandoneon, roused in me an emotion that, later on, I tried to express in my “artist’s book“, an only handmade copy on paper. Still, nowadays, I can feel the same emotion in my heart caused by that first listening.
